Position: Supply Chain Specialist


Reports to: Director of Purchasing


Scope of Role: This is a dual role position requiring the person to perform scheduling as well as general purchasing functions. Works with other buyers to ensure delivery of materials, establish and monitor the production schedules for the facility to achieve customer requirements. 


Principal Responsibilities:

  • Acts as primary contact with sales, manufacturing, and logistics, determining resource constraints, and developing plans to achieve customers' needs.
  • Reviews MRP system for inventory of raw materials against present and anticipated sales orders.
  • Enters specific sales orders into the master schedule based on requested customer delivery dates, availability of raw materials, and equipment.
  • Maintains the master production schedule for the facility, reviewing daily to adjust for changes in customer requirements, delay in receiving raw materials, availability of production equipment, etc. Advises appropriate parties in the plant and sales offices by E-mail of changes in the schedule.
  • Leads bi-weekly production planning meeting that includes representatives from sales, production, shipping, customer service, and purchasing departments.
  • Reviews monthly marketing forecasts, and adjusts master schedules accordingly.
  • Participates in sales department's forecast meetings.
  • Processes requisitions for supplies, researches products, clarifies specifications, documents competitive bidding, processes purchase orders.
  • Follows up back orders, expedites delivery of orders, and makes special arrangements for delivery; communicates to the department the expected delivery date.

Qualifications / Skills:

  • A bachelor's degree in materials management or business with a minimum of five years' experience in manufacturing, production planning, supply chain, materials management, and/or materials control function.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with a computerized production planning system(MRP) such as Visual Manufacturing, SyteLine or similar.
  • Professional certification by the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS), is preferred.
  • Ability to analyze situations and react in a timely manner necessary.
  • Must be an excellent communicator
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
